
Chelsea Asman
Teaching Artist
Chelsea Asman earned her B.F.A. in Dance Performance from Chapman University and is a recent graduate of University of California, Irvine where she earned her M.F.A. in dance. As a graduate student Chelsea had the privilege of working as Professor Emeritus Donald McKayle’s teaching assistant, and additionally taught courses in jazz, modern, and social dance. Chelsea has also taught at Loyola Marymount University, Fullerton College, and The Gabriella Foundation. Chelsea has performed with Los Angeles based companies such as; Invertigo Dance Theatre, Diavolo Dance Theatre’s Education Company, Kairos Dance Company, and Multiplex Dance. Her choreography has been shown throughout Los Angeles, including L.A. Dance Festival and MixMatch Dance Festival. She has also choreographed for Nevada Union High School in Grass Valley, CA. Chelsea is the founder of the Contemporary Modern Dance Collective where she held the position of Committee Chairman from 2013 to 2016. She also co-produced the first Women Manifest Dance concert for women empowerment in West Hollywood, CA in 2016. In addition to her dance training, Chelsea is a certified personal trainer. She wrote her M.F.A. thesis on how to incorporate muscular strengthening and cardiorespiratory endurance training into a collegiate level modern dance technique class. It is her goal to enhance the performance ability of dancers through her knowledge of exercise science.
